In 1970, Harley-Davidson rolled out the XR750 to replace the outgoing KR750 to compete in flat track competitions. For decades, the XR750 earned its title as one of the most successful race bikes of all time — accumulating more wins than any other motorcycle in the history of AMA racing. Its successor, the XG750R, was unveiled back in 2016.
A change in the AMA’s racing rules led Harley to build the iron-barreled XR750, a de-stroked XLR, which debuted in 1969. Though it wasn’t very successful, it was the beginning of a legend, as it was followed by the alloy XR750 in 1972, which did become a tremendously successful racer.
The cafe racer seems to share the flat tracker’s front suspension setup, but as the patent drawings reveal, it differs in quite a few other ways.
